Webhooks bridge WhatsApp and your systems: inbound messages, status updates, and session events arrive as JSON POSTs. Configure at /dashboard/webhooks or per session.

Payloads you care about

Inbound text/media, delivery/ack when available, session state changes, and actionable errors. Filter events so your endpoint is not flooded.

Integration contract

HTTPS only; return 2xx fast and process async; store messageId for idempotency; log payloads in staging; use dashboard Test delivery before prod.

n8n: webhook trigger → ticket / auto-reply / escalate. CRM: create lead/ticket from sender + body. ERP: update order state on keywords.

Security

Validate secrets/headers, restrict IPs when possible, redact PII in logs. Replay helps debugging — control who can trigger it.

Common failures

Timeouts = slow handlers. Auth errors = your middleware. Multi-session setups need the correct URL per number. If events stop, check Sessions first.

Stable JSON contracts

Pin core fields: message id, sender, content type, timestamp, session id. Ignore unknown future fields safely. Reject non-HTTPS in production.

Add a dead-letter queue after N failures with Slack/Pager alerts — otherwise “customer wrote and nobody saw” becomes invisible.

Routing patterns

Keyword router first; ML later if needed. VIP → human, FAQ → bot, payments → finance ticket only. One correlation id across CRM and logs.

Pre-cutover tests

Dashboard test delivery, real-number send, duplicate-delivery simulation for idempotency, plus uptime checks on your endpoint.

Inbound quality monitoring

Track last event per session, latency, and your 5xx rate. If a busy session goes silent for 15 minutes, check Sessions before blaming your code. That triad ends “whose fault?” debates.
